Columbia Stunner Hit Market Monday

The Wales Garden/Hollywood/Rose Hill neighborhood is one of Columbia’s most popular areas.

This 3,650 sq. ft home has been transformed into one of the best among some real stunners. This Craftsman-style beauty perfectly combines modern luxury with old style charm. You will love it.

The main level winds from front to back with entertaining opportunities calling. The open floorplan is perfect for grand parties and fundraisers. I’ve seen first hand that this home can accomodate a very large number of guests.
The awesome kitchen is in the middle of the home and features granite, stainless appliances, an enormous pantry and a back splash that everyone loves. There is a view into every room on the main level from the kitchen.
Upstairs is one of the largest owner suites you’ll ever see. Click the link above and you will see that it takes two ceiling fans to balance the room. The suite opens to a private deck that overlooks the perfect pool.
Without exaggeration, the backyard is an in town oasis. The salt water pool requires little upkeep and the three fountains make for a peaceful background. Many of the flowers stand taller than most men and the coy pond is the dot on an explanation point.
I can’t wait to have an Open House at 247 S. Edisto Avenue. Every visitor is sure to be impressed.

Well Now This is Awkward…

How Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!!
Our newest little billboards are sending a mixed message…
After all the contests, studies and P.R. contracts concerning the design of license plates, 999 of them are funny at best, and crude at worst. Hopefully the Florida, Ohio and Michigan traveler trailing a FKD tag on I-95, will choose the former of the two.

When one of our friends asked my wife what she should do with her new FKD tag, Jenna didn’t quite know what to tell her. Admittedly, I thought it was pretty funny. A few hours later I saw that two other friends posted on Facebook that they were issued a tag with the same prefix. I immediately realized that folks were noticing.

It’s going to be interesting to see who puts the tag on their vehicles compared to those who request new ones. Either way, I’ll be curious to see what the great minds in charge of tourism and business recruitment will do anything about the FKD tags. I’m sure they won’t but one is never surprised when it comes to government decisions.

My bet is that we’ll see the tags dot the walls of bars around the state, frat houses and watch South Carolinians rivet them to Jon-boats and trailers. A few of them may even fetch a few bucks on Ebay.

We all know that “Virginia is for Lovers” but this is another level!

Some Lots Are $19K at Cobblestone

Anyone who played golf at The University Club misses what we had. For a while, it was probably the most fun golf course to play in Columbia. As most courses, it was about 15-20 minutes away from most downtown neighborhoods. It was a cool place to play golf.
The University Club had 27 holes instead of 18. It was always fun to see if we were assigned to “Garnet, Black or Gold.” Each “9” had it’s own brand. Garnet was hardest, gold had three short par 3’s and Black was most player’s favorite. Black is my favorite. Number 9 Black is one of the best holes in Columbia. The U/C had one of the coolest logo’s in Columbia.
Fast forward to Bobby Ginn and Cobblestone Park. The neighborhood now has scores of vacant lots that surround the awesome course. Presently, the dilemma with the neighborhood is that everyone that bought a lot at the product “launch” intended to immediately flip the property. The prices were simply too high.
Now, with foreclosures escalating in Cobblestone one can’t help but raise an eyebrow at the new prices. Some lots are on the market for $19,000. For the right person, I would think this is an opportunity.
We’ll see what results are in store for the former University Club. I happen to think that there are some opportunities that deserve a look.

Forest Acres Home Gets Quick Contract

While closing another house at MG&C, the other Realtor in the transaction informed me that another home in Forest Acres was coming to market. My ears perked up immediately and as you can imagine, I had a buyer client in mind.
The weekend before the house hit the market we had been inside twice already. After some thought, we decided to put an offer on the house. It was Under Contract within a few hours. Nice!
This home has 2,433 sq. ft, 3 bedrooms/2 baths and sits on an huge landscaped lot. It has three different areas for TV’s, one of which is large enough to hit tennis balls on a wall.
Forest Acres/Forest Lake/Arcadia Lakes is selling pretty well right now. It has a good mix of homes that qualify for “Obama Money” and ones that qualify for FHA backed loans (under $273,000). Combine these factors with the fact that Forest Acres is close to downtown Columbia makes it a hot community.
Inspections are Monday at 9:00a.m. We’re hopeful that everything will go well. For now, I’m just happy that we knew of a “secret house” first. Keep them coming! 🙂

It’s Andre Bauer Time in Palmetto State

Hard Work & Timing Could Be Big for SC…and Andre’
Since no one tackled Governor Sanford before he exhaled political and marital death into various microphones, it looks like we’ll have a new governor of our beloved Palmetto State. Personally, I have a positive outlook for a Bauer administration.

By no means will Andre be governor “by default.” He worked incredibly hard for the job of Lt. Governor. Early in his political life, Andre walked door to door in ’96 to win his first political campaign to win a seat in the SC House of Representatives. He later earned a seat into the ‘deliberative body,’ as a state senator. Now he’s our Lt. Governor and poised to take the top post via Mark Sanford’s personal and professional meltdown.

I have a few friends that have announced their candidacy for governor in the next election cycle. Soon we’ll be choosing between them who’ll be the best candidate for our state in 2010. Notwithstanding 2010, I’ll bet that Andre will do a fine job as South Carolina’s next governor.

To my friend; Sparingly does hard work and timing present an opportunity to do big stuff. Do big stuff.

Columbia’s New Real Estate Listings

Columbia’s Hotsheet; June 11 – 27, 2009

Congrats Liz Gunn and Jerry Reardon!

How Much News Can We Take in One Week?!
To put it mildly this has been one huge week in the news. So huge in fact, that I’m not sure I blogged about real estate one time. Yikes!!!

The world just learned via Facebook that Liz and Jerry are engaged to be married! These two are a couple that everyone loves to be around and I personally can’t wait to see them again.

Congratulations to you both! Elizabeth, I know you’re beaming somewhere right now. Kudo’s to you Jerry, as you have clearly out kicked your coverage (as I have).
Hope to see you this weekend somewhere!!!
