The fabulous theme of “Favorite Things” for the Holiday Market this year got me thinking. With all apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein, here are a few of my favorite things about the JLC.
I love the look on a small child’s face when she receives a book, a package of dental supplies or much needed clothes and shoes courtesy of the JLC.
I love interacting with grateful parents and grandparents who attend functions with their children.
The sense of pride in talking to the community about the impact of the JLC is fantastic and contagious.
There is nothing like seeing old and new friends working side-by-side as shift workers to get the job done. It is special to catch a glimpse of a Sustainer who has taken the time to attend a JLC event even though meeting credit is no longer on her to-do list.
How can one top the hustle and bustle of Holiday Market; the thrill of the hunt at Clean Sweep; the roar of the engines at Touch A Truck? For me, it is all about the hard work, the friendships, the impact and the legacy of the JLC.
As we approach the holiday season, I hope you will take advantage of the many wonderful opportunities and offerings on the JLC calendar. Whether you are brand new to the League, a Sustainer or somewhere in between, there is a place for you in the JLC.

I’ll especially look forward to seeing you at the Holiday Market. Support for this event is more important than ever as the JLC strives to expand its outreach and maximize impact in the community. The Junior League of Columbia is thrilled to present the 2013 Holiday Market at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds! For 28 years, Holiday Market has featured some of the most talented merchants in the country, many of which are located right here in South Carolina. From apparel to specialty items, the nearly 100 merchants that will be in attendance are certain to have whatever you are looking for.
