Finish The Sentence, Please…

To be clear, I’m not getting in a debate tonight and I’m certainly not trying to make anyone mad. It’s not my way. I am going to type about something that’s bothered me since the first time I heard it.

“Guns Don’t Kill People. People Kill People.”

I don’t understand this. Never have. The sentence isn’t finished, is it?

Let’s go with it for a minute:

“Pans don’t fry eggs. People fry eggs…with pans.” See what I did there? Am I missing something?

“Remotes don’t change channels. People change channels…with remotes.”

“Phones don’t call Uber. People call Uber with phones.”

“Cars don’t drive to the beach. People drive to the beach in cars.”

“TVs don’t watch football. People watch football on TVs.”

“Toasters don’t toast toast. People toast toast in toasters.”

“Footballs don’t make touchdowns. People make touchdowns with footballs.”

We could do this all day and night and make sense of thousands of examples. After all, people are going to achieve a means to an end with the most efficient manner possible and/or available.

A quote that has become part of American lexicon and accepted as pop-culture is, conveniently or inconveniently, incomplete.

Why did I choose the pic above? I didn’t want to put a pic of a gun and it’s better than a “2.” Further, I understand the 2nd Amendment & there needs to be a second part to the unfinished slogan.

Anyway, I’m just trying to understand.

  1. I love it! Great analogy!
