Way To Go, Junior League of Columbia!

JLCCheckColumbia was a busy place Thursday night as events were happening all around the Midlands. The event of choice for us, of course, was the Junior League of Columbia’s annual End Of The Year Celebration.

I’ve attended this meeting for 15/16 or so years in a row now, and always leave feeling proud of what the women of the League accomplish. The photo above is the dollar amount raised, through fundraisers such as Holiday Market, Clean Sweep, and Touch-A-Truck,  which is distributed back into our community, respectively. While the amount of money is incredible, what I’m always in awe of is the impact of ‘womanpower’ the League provides. I’m not really sure how to put it into words, but to see the JLC in action is, well, pure action. Given the number of women combined with enthusiasm, their action turns into impact. It’s big, and it’s real.

On a personal note, I proudly stood beside Jennifer and League president, Kim Leighton, as together we presented the Kinsey Black Jones Award to Jessica Atwood. If you don’t know the story, Kinsey and I were married 11 months. Before and during those months, she was an excited and super-active member of the League until she was admitted to Baptist Hospital for the last time. The board elected to honor her memory by creating an award that recognizes the outstanding first, second, or third year Active Member.

Big “Shout Out!” and CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS to Jessica Atwood!!! I know Kinsey and the Black family would be so proud!

Once again, well done to the Junior League of Columbia. We had fun and a good time was had by all!

Thank you!

Franklin Jones
