“Bing/Maps” Car Was In Columbia Today.

BingCarAs my three girls and I were finishing our first walk around the neighborhood of the day, I got a glimpse of a weird car making its way down one of the cul de sacs. My first thought was, “OK, well this is cool. That’s the Google Maps car.”

When I figured out what was going on I did a ‘stroller 180,’ and got the sun behind me. As he rode back up Retreat Lane I snapped a picture. As you can see, it wasn’t the ‘Google’ car, it was ‘Bing.’

Was this important? Other than the Google camera has been known to shoot some very funny un-staged photos, not at all. Was it kinda cool? Maybe a little. As it relates to real estate, however, the shots these cameras take are a valuable tool for our practice (and industry). For instance; If a homeowner calls to list their home for sale, and the property has never been on an MLS system, we use these search engine photos as a guide. In short, Google and Bing do a lot of prep work for us (and many other professions, I’m sure).

While we all use Google for street view vantage points, Bing does have a cool “Bird’s eye” angle from above. It’s different enough from “aerial” to make a difference.

This all said, I hope everyone in Columbia had their front façades all sharp and tidy this weekend. The Bing fella was shooting between Retreat/W. Tombee/Otranto around 11ish this morning!

  1. Last month a Bing Streetside car drove through my neighborhood in Charleston. I recognised the pole and the camera ball on top right away as the car approached but was shocked to find it was Bing and not Google. Today Bing’s maps updated with Streetside in my area and I found myself staring back at … well myself.
I’ve seen Google’s Street View car twice over the years but this was the first encounter with Bing’s Map Car.

Why users still use to read news papers when in this technological globe everything is presented on net?
