I’m not sure we’ve ever seen a world or national championship slip through a team’s hands like we did Wednesday night.
If you aren’t aware, the Arkansas Razorbacks were winning in the 9th inning of a game that would win the title for them (Arkansas won game 1 the night before), with the opposing team down to their last out, and the batter down to his last strike, when the rather routine pop-up happened.
I feel for the fellas in the pics above, the other players on the team, and the program as they lost the game later in the inning, and subsequently the College World Series in Game 3 the next night. These young men will remember this for the rest of their lives.
All they had to do is catch that one baseball before it hit the ground. Either one of them could have attempted the catch. None of them did.
I don’t know whether to feel bad for them or chalk it up as a teaching moment.
Maybe both.
Ugh, either way.
Congratulations, Oregon State University.
