Junior League of Columbia’s Holiday Market Is This Week!

No matter how early big box retailers put out their blinking green and red displays and “Gray Thursday/Black Friday/Cyber Monday” notwithstanding, many Midland’s residents consider the Junior League of Columbia’s Holiday Market as the unofficial start to the Christmas season. This year is no different.

To start the event off right, hundreds and hundreds of friends will be at the super popular Holiday Market’s ‘Preview Party.’ The Preview Party is a big kick-off fancy/formal party that always produces a good time.

As you can tell, I’m a big fan of the Holiday Market, and the League. I know first hand how many hours are logged, and how hard the women work for the League’s various causes. Their reach is tireless and almost endless. To me, they’re a well-run machine that would be the envy of any organization I can think of.

For about a decade now we (Amanda Payne, Elizabeth Ross, and Amy Cartin) have had the pleasure of supplying the wine and cocktail cups to all in attendance at the ‘Preview Party’ and ‘Ladies Night Out.’ We’re happy to do it! Actually, I love it. These two events always serve as some of my favorite advertising efforts, and I have tons of fun memories from years past.

Year after year, the Holiday Market provides a BIG time for everyone. It really has something for everyone. Tux party, LNO, PJs w/ Santa, shopping, and on and on. That said, I hope everyone will be at The Cantey Building at The S.C. Fairgrounds at some event between Wednesday and Sunday!

I encourage everyone to take home as many of the frosted cups you can hold. They’re awesome beach toters, sandbox scoopers, fish hook holders, and perfect for rinsing your kid’s hair in the bathtub.

It’s a week full of parties, hosted by the Junior League of Columbia.

“See You At The Market!”

Thank you!

Amazon Now Crossing USA Thresholds. $Prime + $250.

If you haven’t seen or heard yet, the distribution behemoth of stuff, Amazon, would like you to pay them for the ability to put the boxes you order inside your front door.
Like most folks, I’m not sure of what will become of this concept. I see convenience. I also see lots of exposure.
Check a post from my friends at Inman News.

New service ‘Amazon Key’ will let delivery people inside your home when you’re not there

Amazon’s steady encroachment into every corner of our lives has reached a new phase: now Jeff Bezos and co. want the keys to our homes.

Amazon this morning announced a new service, the plainly-named Amazon Key, which invites Amazon Prime subscribers to install smart locks on the doors to their houses or apartments, which delivery people can then unlock with an app on their phones.

The goal is to let delivery people drop packages off inside your home when you’re not around, offering more “security” than leaving them outside or in an apartment building lobby/hallway, according to Amazon. Once you have the app and smart lock installed, you’ll be able to select “In-Home Delivery” as a check box while you’re completing an Amazon purchase online, which will tell the delivery person to leave the package inside.

Although the app and service are “free” to use, Amazon Key will cost you. In addition to paying for Amazon Prime, the online retail giant’s free two-day shipping and streaming media plan that costs $99-a-year, those wanting to use Amazon Key will also have to pay for extra hardware: the Amazon Key In-Home Kit costs $249.99, and includes a smart lock, an Amazon Cloud Cam (indoor security camera), and offers an option for free installation.

As an alternative to this, Amazon Key also works with “a compatible smart lock from Kwikset or Yale.”

The camera seems to be required in order to assuage concerns of delivery people or others getting into your home through the smart lock and stealing your stuff (though the paranoiac in me must point out it would not prevent someone with authorized access from casing your place and coming back later with a mask on…)

Amazon is touting another benefit to the service besides packages inside your house: if you decide to buy into Amazon Key, you can let other trusted people such as cleaners, dog walkers, repair technicians (many of which can already be ordered via Amazon), visiting relatives (which cannot be ordered through Amazon—yet!!), or hell, your Airbnb guests access your apartment by downloading the Amazon Key app and granting them a digital key to unlock your door.

Right now, Amazon Key is only available in 37 metro areas:

Caveman Time @ Our Hizz.

Some time ago my awesome friend and client, Charlie, had a night or two to himself. His awesome wife took their kids to the beach or something, which left him in Columbia to ‘fend’ for himself. For some reason we got on the phone when he said, “Yeah, brotha. They all gone. It’s an eat the fat night at my house.”

I’ve not forgotten the quote in over five years and actually share it often. He’s a great husband, dad, and family man, but he recognized the moment and verbalized it in a fashion millions of dudes can relate. After all, there aren’t many fellas that wouldn’t want to go all Fred Flinstone on a thick piece of red meat with no one around to judge.

Fast forward to tonight…

Jennifer left for the beach with all the girls and I had a thick slab of cow in the fridge.

I’m not one to post food pics on social media but I thought this was worth a few paragraphs.

Thank you!

I need a nap.

My ‘Surprise’ Birthday Bash!

A cool perk of having a birthday the day before a National Holiday in the summer is that pretty much everyone around can do a lot of stuff they wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Translation: No one has anywhere to be the next day, including the kids. Translation: Everyone can stay up late.

Some days ago Jennifer texted some neighborhood friends our girls wanted to have cupcakes with/for their daddy at the pool. At the last minute, Mother Nature decided this wasn’t a good idea. That said, the cupcake brigade and good times moved to our house where a bunch of friends had fun and laughed a ton.

All the kids loved the cupcake party, and because it was raining, went down right beeezzerk making slime on our covered front porch.

Junked up and crusty front porch? Whoooo….Cares….is the theme I’m all about! I’m 44, have a beautiful and loving wife, three daughters I adore, and the best friends in the world. Blessed, slime and all.

In case you’re wondering about the necklace and bracelet in any pics you’ve seen, you’re correct if you assumed they were made and given to me by my girls. As I explained way into the night to anyone that asked the question, “What’s that about?”

Answer; “They make it. I wear it.”

It was an awesome, completely impromptu birthday party that went super late.

Thank you!

Wanna Live In Shandon, SC?!

Not long ago we introduced 232 Walker Street (between Duncan and Monroe) to Columbia’s real estate market. At around 2,400 sq. feet, this Shandon home has an open floor plan, modern kitchen with granite slab and new backsplash, an awesome screened porch complete with embedded hot tub, large deck, fully fenced backyard, covered parking, circular driveway, and a private master bath that looks and feels like it belongs in a sleek hotel suite.

This section of Walker Street is right in the middle of Columbia’s popular Shandon neighborhood. If you know Shandon well, you may know of the vacant lot on the corner of Duncan and Walker St. This house is right next door. It’s a desireable spot, to say the least!

If you or anyone you know would like to know more or view this home, please call 803-220-4447 or email Franklin@MyColumbiaHome.com or Amanda@MyColumbiaHome.com .

For Sale! Macgregor 29206.

Check out this awesome bungalow style home in 29206!

3709 Macgregor Drive has around 2,150 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. As you can see, ‘Macgregor,’ has major curb appeal and the interior is awesome, too. Features include hardwoods, smooth ceilings, crown molding, plantation shutters, designer lighting and colors, screened porch, sun room, and an awesome/modern owner’s suite that includes a large bath and closet.

While the house is super attractive, the star of this show may be the location. Nestled in the Heathwood/Belmont area 3709 Macgregor is only minutes to anything Downtown Columbia or Forest Acres. Further, the house is zoned for a popular and award winning school combo of Satchel Ford, Crayton, and A.C. Flora.

If you or anyone you know would like to know more about 3709 Macgregor Drive, please call 803-447-8683 or email Franklin@MyColumbiaHome.com or Elizabeth@MyColumbiaHome.com . As you might imagine, we’re never more than a few minutes away and the house is a pleasure to show.
