When Amy Martin and Debbie Blair reached out to see if I wanted to help with the A.C. Flora JV Tennis team, my initial reaction was, “Shhuuuuuuure…?” As in, what am I getting myself into here?
Fast forward a week or two later, and I was taking a background check exam and sitting in a blood clinic getting checked for tuberculosis. After all of that bit of rigmarole, I was R1 certified and ready to go!
With my racquet ready, visor up, and Flora T-shirt swaggin, my big ass was in the front seat of a bus on the way to high schools across the Midlands.
It was an awesome experience. I enjoyed getting to know all of their personalities and trying to figure out what made each player tick (if anything at all!š¤£). Further, I got to know a lot of teenage lingo, and I have probably said and/or yelled “6/7!” or “6/7 sendy” more than anyone you know. Don’t be jelly and don’t get chalked….and when you get sendy, don’t forget to shotgun whatever ya got.
Big thanks to Amy, Debbie, Lindsay Creech, and A.D. Michelle Yeater for letting me be involved with the program. We had a great season, and it was fun helping this crew get ready to back-fill the annual powerhouse that is A.C. Flora tennis!
BTDubs…the gestures you’re seeing in the middle of the back row are little hearts. You are welcome.
& Go Falcons!
